Pre-season friendly round-up: Villa draw, wins for West Brom, West Ham, Everton

In the night’s other West Midlands derby, West Brom took the bragging rights from the Bank’s Stadium, beating Walsall 2-0 courtesy of goals from Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye. Berahino, subject of much transfer speculation, brushed aside what the club have described as “silly” talk of a move away from the club to start the game and open the scoring, finishing a fine flowing move midway through the second half. The Baggies then sealed the win when a second James McClean assist was converted by Ideye. In the evening’s only all-Premier League fixture, West Ham edged Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road. The game was disrupted by a raft of substitutions, with West Ham replacing nine of the players that started the game with an hour gone. But it was two of those substitutes that made the difference for West Ham with less than 10 minutes remaining. New signing Dimitri Payet continued his excellent pre-season by delivering a near-post cross onto the head West Ham’s youngest ever player, Reece Oxford. The 16-year-old’s header may have taken a deflection on the way past Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy, but it was enough to secure the win for Slaven Bilic’s men. Elsewhere, a Joe Mason brace in between a Troy Deeney equaliser gave Cardiff a 2-1 win over Premier League new boys Watford. Meanwhile, Bournemouth eased to a comfortable 3-0 win at Yeovil courtesy of two goals from Junior Stanislas and one from Joshua King, for whom the Cherries agreed a compensation fee with former club Blackburn Rovers just hours earlier.

Football People on TV: Alan Shearer

John Nicholson and Alan Tyers turn their attention to Alan Shearer, BBC Big Beast, Barclays ticket delivery boy and all-round football leg end Fashion Police All sharp, fitted shirts and dad trousers, Big Wor Sir Al dresses like the sort of 40-something bloke who would give a disrespectful youngster a proper tune up outside a nightclub called Martinis. Shirts manage that special trick of looking both very expensive and kind of cheap. Looks disdainfully on men who dress in clothes that suggest a creative spirit. Anyone in a brightly patterned shirt at a golf club can expect a stern rebuke from Alan. Low slung trousers drive him to barely suppressed rage. Has had little hair for 20 years, which is obviously a highly amusing thing, to Alan. Lingo Bingo Most people from the Newcastle area are regarded as chipper sorts, and generally get a bit patronised. Call centres, for instance, are often in the North East partly because studies show that customers respond positively to people with those sort of accents. The town is after all, full of comely ladies with those warbly voices which make even innocuous statements sound like an invitation to a wild sex party. But none of this loveliness has rubbed off on Wor Al, whose tone is the very definition of the low hum of monotony. His Barclays voice-over ads reaching a nadir of inexpressive droning. Hits & Misses Was for a long time a serial offender on the "Say What You See" school of punditry. Also made it very clear that learning about Foreigns, or attempting tactical analysis, was for nerds and weeds. Said that nobody knew much about Ben Arfa, despite the fact that the player was a French international. His argument against using video technology "we'd have nothing to talk about in the pub afterwards" still causes this column to grind its teeth every now and again. All that said, he has begun to make more

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson to rejoin West Ham on loan - Sky sources

The 23-year-old made 29 Premier League starts for them. Gold had previously stated the club were keen to bring in players to play the "West Ham way" and last week stated: "We are very working hard to try and get Carl back here. "We recognise this is an important season for us, being in Europe, and we will go the extra mile to ensure we have got the strongest possible squad we can muster." Mathieu Debuchy and Bellerin will be fighting for the right-back position in Arsene Wenger's team and another impressive campaign could see Jenkinson return to the Emirates. p>http://www.ivonildolavor.com/artigos/Magista/index.asp

FIFA president Blatter blasts England 'envy'

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has claimed he is the victim of harassment which he believes is down to English bitterness and “envy”. The 79-year-old told a Swiss magazine that England has a grudge against FIFA which stems from the 1974 FIFA presidential elections when Sir Stanley Rous was replaced by Brazil’s Joao Havelange. Blatter also hit out at critics who he jokingly claimed could even blame him for Laura Bassett’s last-minute own-goal that knocked England out of the Women’s World Cup. n an interview with Die Weltwoche, Blatter said: "At that point, England lost their supremacy over their beloved sport, and also over athletics. "The English suffer by no longer being able to control football. This is where the attacks against FIFA originated." Speaking about the FBI raids and arrests of senior football officials two days before Fifa’s congress in May, Blatter said: "This envy has been festering for years. "Envy is a predicate to jealousy. And jealousy is rooted in love. This can however turn to hate. And that’s what happened when this tsunami hit us two days before the congress. "I not only see everything, I'm responsible for everything, even for the English women’s own-goal at the World Cup recently. Am I responsible for climate change, too? "It is impossible to stamp out robbery and murder, even with a functioning courts system down to community level. Football is not better than our society."

Yohan Cabaye: Crystal Palace sign French midfielder from PSG

Crystal Palace have signed Yohan Cabaye from French champions Paris St-Germain for a club-record transfer fee of £10m. The 29-year-old midfielder joins on a three-year deal, with the fee possibly rising to around £13m with add-ons. Cabaye joined PSG from Newcastle for £19m in January 2014 but started just 13 matches as Laurent Blanc's side won a domestic Treble last season. Palace's previous transfer record was £7m, paid in 2014 to Wigan for 27-year-old Scottish midfielder James McArthur. Palace manager Alan Pardew signed Cabaye from Lille in 2011 during his time as Newcastle boss, with the France international going on to score 18 goals in 93 appearances for the Magpies. Cabaye said he was focused on his "new life" and believed that Palace could "compete to get into the top eight". He said: "I also know the gaffer and have worked with him before and I'm confident with him. I want to do my best for him because he's made a big effort to get me to come here, as well as the chairman." Last year the form of Thiago Motta, Javier Pastore, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi meant Cabaye, who has 38 international caps, was used largely as a substitute at PSG. The French club won the Ligue 1 title, the French cup and the French league cup last season.

MicaMicah Richards turned down Inter Milan to join Aston Villah Richards turned down Inter Milan to join Aston Villa

Micah Richards has revealed he turned down the chance to join Inter Milan before deciding to move to Aston Villa this summer. The 27-year-old caught former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini’s eye while he was on loan from the 2014 Premier League champions to Italian side Fiorentina. Mancini first made his interest in the defender known in January and he made an approach at the end of the season when the player became a free agent. The 13-cap England international said: “Having not played so much at Fiorentina, I thought it was right to come home. "I was speaking to Inter as well with Mancini. They tried to get me in January but that didn't materialise. I spoke to him afterwards but I wanted to come back to England.

Liverpool Ladies goalkeeper Danielle Gibbons has undergone surgery after a benign tumour was found on her brain. Gibbons was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma back in January and had successful surgery to remove the tumour earlier this week. She faces a few months away from football but hopes to be back in action for Liverpool's Champions League campaign later in 2015. Liverpool manager Matt Beard said: “Both myself and the players have known about Danielle’s tumour for a while but have kept it to ourselves at the request of Danielle and her family. “As a club we are ensuring that Danielle gets the support she needs and we look forward to her making a speedy recovery and returning to the team.”

Liverpool deny Raheem Sterling does not want to play for Brendan Rodgers

Sky sources understand that Raheem Sterling wants to leave Liverpool because he does not want to play for manager Brendan Rodgers - a claim categorically denied by the club. Robin van Persie deal agreed by Fenerbahce - Sky sources

Fenerbahce have agreed a four-year deal to sign Robin van Persie from Manchester United, according to Sky sources. The Turkish club now hope to officially announce the transfer before the weekend, but there are still some details that need to be finalised and agreed with Van Persie himself. Fenerbahce director Guiliano Terraneo travelled to London recently to discuss a potential deal with United chiefs for the 31-year-old Netherlands striker, who has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, although United have yet to comment on the situation.
