Winger Lionel Ainsworth has signed a new two-year deal with Motherwell.
The 27-year-old was out of contract but has renewed his commitment to the cause at Fir Park after playing a key role in keeping Motherwell in the top flight.
The Englishman, who initially joined on loan from Rotherham, scored in each of the play-off legs as Motherwell beat Rangers 6-1.

The pacey wide player has notched 20 goals and a similar number of assists in two years in Lanarkshire.

Marco van Basten: Interview with the legendary Dutch striker
After a health scare in August, Dutch legend Marco van Basten took the unusual decision to step down as AZ head coach to become the club’s assistant manager. Adam Bate caught up with the three-time Ballon d’Or winner to find out about that decision and more...
They say management is a drug. Those who have it taken from them will talk of ‘taking time out’ and spending it with the family but they soon end up doing it again. Perhaps it’s the pursuit of power. The manager who wants a better job. The assistant who wants to be a manager. The pundit on the television who is just looking for a route back into the game. One last job.
In this environment, it takes a strong man to reveal his vulnerability. But that’s precisely what one of the game’s greats did last autumn. Marco van Basten had been entrusted with the role of head coach at AZ before stress-related issues forced him to re-evaluate. It was Van Basten himself who suggested he take the No 2 role there instead.
I’m more worthwhile to the club now than when I was the first-team coach. I love working with the players. Getting them together and talking about situations.
Marco van Basten on AZ role
Talking to Van Basten this summer, he’s frank about the situation and clearly enjoying his new position at the club. At 50 years old, there are no regrets. “It’s not easy being the first man as a trainer,” Van Basten told Sky Sports. “Now I’m the second man I feel much more comfortable. It’s easier and I prefer it.
“I feel more comfortable in the situation I am in now. I feel I have much more freedom as I have a different responsibility. I’m more worthwhile to the club now than when I was the first-team coach. I love working with the players. Getting them together and talking about situations. That is what I like.”
Passion for coaching
Van Basten’s enduring passion for coaching is obvious. It’s particularly telling that he talks of being able to do more of it now that he’s no longer in charge. It’s reminiscent of the old line from the late Labour MP Tony Benn about quitting the House of Commons so that he could concentrate on politics.
While Benn’s words were part witty aside, part acidic barb, Van Basten almost surprises himself with the irony of the situation. “There is a lot of pressure on the coach that’s for sure,” he agrees. “Twenty-five years ago they seemed to talk a lot more about the players than they did about the coaches. That seems to have changed a little bit.”

Football365's Famous Euro Ladder Here we are again - Jack Wilshere climbs back into the top three, Harry Kane jumps again and Ross Barkley and Theo Walcott miss out. Don't shoot the guesser... Last Updated: 15/06/15 at 15:32 Post Comment
As ever, a reminder: The order below is based not on our opinion, but our estimation of Roy Hodgson's thoughts. Blame him, not us, if it makes you mad.
1 (1) - Wayne Rooney
Rotten control against Ireland and then rotten finishing against Slovenia...until he scored the winner. And it was ever thus. He's a spurter. And if that doesn't make you queasy, you have a better stomach than I.
2 (2) - Joe Hart
He literally has no competition; it's just as well that he is an excellent goalkeeper. And he did that swinging on the crossbar thing against Ireland that every right-thinking person loves.
3 (7) - Jack Wilshere
From 2) in November to 7) in April to 3) in June. That pretty much illustrates the frustration of the brittle Wilshere, who simply needs to be fit enough for long enough to prove that he can be trusted in midfield against better opposition. England's one bright spark against Ireland became their driving force against Slovenia. No wonder he doesn't want the season to end.
4 (4) - Gary Cahill
His decision-making (as illustrated against Slovenia) can be awful but he is - and yes, I do get bored of writing this - England's best option at centre-half. Even if Kurt Zouma usurps him at club level, he is England's vice-captain for a reason. His place is secure.
5 (3) - Raheem Sterling
The Sun's Steven Howard called it a 'schoolboy error' when Hodgson chose Sterling to face Slovenia instead of Theo Walcott; The Sun's Steven Howard is wrong on this and many other things. Simply England's brightest attacking talent.
6 (9) - Jordan Henderson
An absolute certainty for Hodgson's European Championship squad and near-certainty for the starting XI despite never producing an excellent England performance in 22 attempts. That he was much better at right-back against Slovenia is telling - he is a hardworking but limited player who needs a defined role. "Can you run up and down that wing, Jordan?" Of course I bloody can, boss. But who else? His discipline enables Wilshere to be brilliantly indisciplined.
7 (5) - Danny Welbeck
Were the European Championship to start now, we suspect that Hodgson would field the same six as those that faced Slovenia, substituting Welbeck for Andros Townsend. And that's absolutely fine by us.
8 (11) - Phil Jones
It really does seem that Hodgson will crowbar him in somewhere (he's started every game for which he has been fit since the World Cup). We can find reason behind most of the England manager's decisions, but Jones at right-back? Ahead of Clyne? Now that's mind-boggling.
9 (14) - Harry Kane
Why has he moved without playing? Because we kept looking at the bench when England needed a goal, seeing Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy, and saying 'we really could do with Harry Kane'.

Why Is 27 Years Old A Cut Off For England Fans?
This doesn't mean we're awful. But I've yet to see a single England fan saying we're on a par with Spain or whatever. If your definition of 'good' is 'the best' or 'going to win the Euros' then yes, we're not good. But if you line all the international teams up in order from best to worst, which end would you say we'd be nearer to?
And we all know how next summer will go: we'll ignore the press b******t for as long as possible, then finally give in to the hype about five minutes before kick off in the quarter finals...before recycling the usual dreary emails about Invest In Grass Roots Now!, Sack Greg Dyke Now!, Winter Break Now!, Premier League Is Rubbish, Pirlo Is So Sexy Lol, etc. etc. etc. Then forget it all in August and spend 10 months finding out who's managed to buy the league this year.
And if people do think England are the best...so what? Some people think Jason Manford is funny. Each to their own and all that.
Neil Raines
England Are Pretty Dull
I have to say that I agree with Alex, Leeds. England are pretty dull to watch and really not great (Hodgson's fault as much as anything) but, to go a step further, are they even that likeable? We're captained by an angry Scouser who can't score a meaningful goal in an England shirt to save his life, yet is somehow about to break the record; our most dangerous player is pretty disliked by his own club and, well, just not that dangerous; our most influential player is Jack-the-mouthy-club-rep-from-Magaluf-Wilshere.
All in all, a sorry state of affairs. Although I look forward to forgetting all of this, getting really excited pre-Euro 2016 and suffering the same disappointment when we thoroughly underwhelm. Or Kane to do what Rooney did in 2004 (just without the cruel injury), and make me remember why I love England.
Alex, THFC (we would've won 2004 if Rooney didn't get injured. What happened to that player?

With Chelsea agreeing a season-long loan deal to bring Monaco striker Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge – many people are pondering whether Jose Mourinho can get the striker back to his best?
Johannes Geis has emerged as the latest midfield target for Atletico Madrid, reports AS.
Atleti coach Diego Simeone plans to move Koke into the middle from out wide next term and he wants to sign a defensively-minded player to partner the Spaniard.
The 21-year-old, who is on the books at Bundesliga side Mainz, is considered by some as Bastian Schweinsteiger’s long-term successor in the German national side.

BIG GUNS EYE TIELEMANS
Chelsea and Arsenal have both made enquiries about Anderlecht starlet Youri Tielemans, according to AS.
The 18-year-old, who has already racked up 86 appearances for Anderlecht, is regarded as one of the most promising young players in Belgium.
He has attracted strong interest from Atletico Madrid this season, although he recently penned a new five-year contract at his current club.
That hasn’t stopped his list of suitors from growing, though, and AS reports that both Chelsea and Arsenal have asked after the Belgium under-21 international.
It is believed Anderlecht would request a fee in the region of €20m for the midfielder.

Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici is confident of his chances of securing the signature of Carlos Tevez.
Tevez has been tipped to leave Juve after stunning season at the Turin club, and Boca, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen to offer him a route out of Italy.
The 31-year-old has always reiterated his desire to return to his first club Boca and the Argentine club’s president, who met with the striker earlier this week, believes the player will be playing for his side or Juventus next term.
He told TyC Sports: “I want to be cautious with the arrival of Carlitos to Boca. We must respect Juventus, the club where one year of his contract remains, but what I am sure of is that Tevez stays at Juve or returns to Boca.
“We spoke with Carlitos about the future, but now we have to leave him alone so that he can play in the Copa America.....if an agreement with Juventus is reached, Boca will make the maximum effort, but we have to be patient with the times and respect the Italian club.”

WATFORD TO RAID GETAFE?
Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores is planning to raid his old club Getafe to sign winger Pablo Sarabia, according to AS.
Sanchez Flores has made the 23-year-old one of his transfer priorities ahead of his first season at Vicarage Road and negotiations are expected to start in the coming days.
The midfielder’s former club Real Madrid are entitled to a 20 percent cut of any transfer fee, and Getafe are hoping to make at least €2.5m out of the deal.
According to AS, Sanchez Flores is also keen on Getafe’s left-back Sergio Escudero and striker Alvaro Vazquez, who spent time on loan at Swansea City in the 2013-14 season.

Lionel Messi is everything to Barcelona, says Guillem Balague
Guillem Balague believes everything comes down to Lionel Messi in the Barcelona team, and that Luis Enrique's change of style helped them use the Argentine to his full potential.
Barcelona won part one of a potential treble last weekend, eventually finishing two points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga, with the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals to come.
Messi's 56 goals in all competitions this season has helped them on their way, a personal improvement of 15 goals on last term.

And Balague says that without Messi, Barcelona would not have had as much success as they have up to now.
He told Revista de La Liga: "Take Lionel Messi out of Barcelona in the last seven years, they would not have won as many as five leagues, two Champions Leagues, plus maybe a third Champions League.
"If you want to analyse this season only, a coach did his job. Enrique looked after the little details, changed the style and the essence of Barcelona, and has made it a super competitve team.

"At the end of everything is one thing: Lionel Messi. Whether they are a counter-attacking team or a passing team, whatever, it's all about Lionel Messi."
Gerry Armstrong echoed Balague's words, saying Messi's team-mates have helped by accepting he is the focal point of the side.
Armstrong said: "It's a question of how the other talent adjusted to Lionel Messi, and accept that he is probably the best player I've ever seen.

Martin Tyler's Champions League stats: Omens for Barcelona and Juventus
I will answer your Champions League questions shortly, but I shall start with some reflections on Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. Arsenal started the season with a 3-0 win at Wembley in the Community Shield and finished it with a 4-0 win. They completed a set of three wins over Aston Villa of 3-0, 5-0 and 4-0.
It was the biggest FA Cup win since Manchester United won 4-0 against Chelsea in 1994. The last time four different players scored for one team in an FA Cup final was when Bury had five different scorers in 1903 against Derby. Joe Leeming, George Ross, Charlie Fagar, Willie Wood and Jack Plant were the scorers.
The last time a team had exactly four scorers was when Sheffield United beat Derby 4-1 in 1899 with goals from Walter Bennett, Walter Beers, Jack Almond and Fred Priest.
Shay Given had a 17-year gap in between FA Cup final appearances, both against Arsenal, and in both games his team failed to score. Shay, of course, was involved in two FA Cup finals when he didn’t play. He was not used by Newcastle in 1999 against Manchester United and he was on the bench for the winning Manchester City team of 2011.
Arsenal broke the all-time record with a 12th FA Cup success and Arsene Wenger set a managerial record for modern times with six wins. George Ramsey was the managerial secretary for Aston Villa’s first six wins.
Peter McParland and Nigel Sims from Aston Villa’s 1957 team were at Wembley on Saturday – and despite the disappointment of defeat left Wembley knowing they are still in the last Aston Villa team to win the FA Cup – McPharland remains the last Villa player to score in an FA Cup final.

European Championship qualifiers: Silva strike keeps Spain on course for Euro 2016
I fear we are enjoying the last great European Championships,” claimed Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher in his Telegraph column back in 2012 and even those at UEFA headquarters were willing to acknowledge that the solution was far from perfect. “That is a problem,” admitted UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino. “It is not an ideal final tournament.”

But the finals were never what this decision was about. The ambition behind the expansion was to promote increased interest – and with it, marketability – for the sometimes arduous qualifying campaign. If more countries could become engaged throughout qualifying then UEFA had a better product to sell.
“With national team football, the fact that more teams qualify can boost the interest of some groups which today are decided already in the early stages,” added Infantino. “While the big countries should qualify as expected, a lot of smaller countries will have a lot more to play for chasing the extra qualifying places.” UEFA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein expanded the point further.
“In the big countries, the people will probably carry on watching,” said Epstein. “But the fight, the drama to qualify, will go down to pot two, three and four, where there is more possibility to qualify than before. So potentially it would increase the interest rather than decrease the interest because you will have more teams that will fight to the end to qualify.”

FIFA to meet in July to outline plans for presidential election
FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer said: "An extraordinary executive committee meeting needs to confirm a date and agenda for the extraordinary elective congress.
"This extraordinary executive committee will convene in July, the precise date of which is to be confirmed this week, and for the extraordinary elective congress there are currently various date options for discussion at the meeting."
Under FIFA rules, a four-month notice is required for any presidential elections to be held and the organisation must also consider time to vet candidates - so an election could take place as far away as December or the early months of 2016.
Blatter has said he will remain in charge until the new president is elected and oversee a number of structural changes, and the FIFA compliance officer Domenico Scala has been appointed to oversee a smooth transition of power.

Sepp Blatter 'discussed $10m with South Africa president'
Sepp Blatter: Discussed $10m with South Africa president, a leaked email and letter suggest
Sepp Blatter discussed the $10m payment at the centre of the FIFA ‘bribe’ scandal with South Africa’s then President Thabo Mbeki, a leaked email and letter suggest.
The email, seen by Sky Sports News HQ, was sent by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke to South Africa’s then deputy finance minister Jabu Moleketi in December 2007.
In it Valcke is chasing up the $10m payment and writes: “I haven’t received confirmation yet. More importantly I would like to know when the transfer is going to be done.”
He reminds Moleketi that the plan was “based on a discussion between FIFA and the South African government and also between our President and HE President M’Beki.”
The letter was leaked to South Africa’s Sunday Times and was sent three months earlier, in September 2007, again by Valcke.
In it Valcke asks the South African government to send the $10m direct to FIFA, adding that football’s governing body would then distribute the money in the Caribbean for a legacy programme aimed at the African diaspora.
Less than six months later however, the $10m is known to have been sent direct from a FIFA account to disgraced former CONCACAF president and ex-FIFA vice-president Jack Warner.

Raheem Sterling should stay at Liverpool and focus on winning trophies, says Jamie Carragher
amie Carragher said that Raheem Sterling needs to get a new agent and he is angered by a young footballer taking on Liverpool.
Jamie Carragher thinks Raheem Sterling should stop taking Liverpool on and focus on his football to bring trophies to Anfield.
According to Sky sources, Sterling is set to resume contract talks with Liverpool later this week but intends to tell them he does not plan to sign a new deal.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Sky Sports pundit Carragher slammed the England international's agent before telling Sterling to let his football do the talking at the highest level.

"For a 20-year-old kid and his agent to be taking on the club, there's nothing worse than that," Carragher said.
"Forget his performances and forget how much money he wants, you just keep your mouth shut and get on with playing football.
"He'll move on in years to come but how will he be thought of for the rest of his career? You've got to think about how you will be thought of, as well as just your ability. And it's about time his agent stopped leaking stories, never mind the football club leaking stories.
"He doesn't need to move clubs in my opinion," he added. "For his football development, he needs to stay at Liverpool. He plays every week."
The former Liverpool defender went on to question the 20-year-old's performances in big games this season, including the club's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa last month.

Jamie Vardy's England call-up completes fantastic rise, says Kevin Phillips
Jamie Vardy’s England call-up completes a remarkable rise from non-league – and he’ll seize his chance, says Leicester coach Kevin Phillips.
The 28-year-old was signed by Leicester in 2012 from non-league Fleetwood Town and, after playing a key role as the Foxes won the Championship last season, Vardy has helped Nigel Pearson’s men retain their Premier League status in remarkable fashion this term.
Vardy may only have scored four goals in his first season in the top flight but Phillips says his speed will have appealed to England boss Roy Hodgson – and the striker has the character to thrive alongside the nation’s top talent.

Thierry Henry's former team-mate Xavi will play his last game for Barcelona on Saturday
Xavi is "Mr Barcelona" and will be sorely missed as he prepares to depart Barcelona, says former team-mate and Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry.
Xavi has won 24 trophies in 17 years in Barcelona's first-team, and the Champions League final against Juventus in Berlin on Saturday will be his last game for the club.
And Henry, who played with Xavi at Barcelona for three seasons between 2007 and 2010, has given an insight into the 35-year-old's attitude to life at the Nou Camp.

Our final part, and the question of what on earth will happen at West Ham? Plus there is much to ponder for Spurs - evolution or yet another revolution at White Hart Lane...
What they need
A new spine and a bit of ambition. Pochettino has already added Kevin Wimmer but another proven centre-half is required, on top of a central midfielder and a striker. Spurs will be wary of beginning another revolution, but the reality is that there is much fat to trim from the squad. Most of it was bought in the last three years.
What they will probably get
Wimmer is in and right-back Kieran Tripper is likely to be Spurs' reward for offering £12m for free-agent Danny Ings, thus allowing Burnley to make a case for larger compensation from Liverpool. Charlie Austin would be a smart acquisition, while Juve's Fernando Llorente and Atletico's Mario Mandzukic have also been linked. Both are unlikely to be willing to play second fiddle to Harry Kane. The Morgan Schneiderlin link refuses to go away, despite the midfielder saying he will only leave Southampton for Champions League football. Pochettino is surely more likely to shop abroad, however.
What's been said
"I do not have the same possibility to spend a lot of money like the manager here two seasons ago. We need to be clever in the way that we build the new squad, because it is difficult to compete with the money. We want good players, with the right profile. We need to look forward and learn from the past. We have a different plan to develop over the next few years and we need to deliver it" - Mauricio Pochettino, May 16
WATFORD
What they need
A manager first and foremost. Some Premier League experience would not go amiss, but youth and hunger can often compensate for a lack of experience. Expect the Hornets to strengthen in almost every area. Largely because they need to.

Refocused Pique Smells Treble Glory
While all eyes will be on Messi, Suarez and Neymar in Berlin, the boys at the back for Barcelona also deserve their share of the limelight.
Luis Enrique's side retained their La Liga title by conceding just 21 goals - the joint-fewest number any Barca side has allowed in the league for 45 years. The possibility of such success appeared remote at the turn of the year. Equally unlikely was the role Gerard Pique has subsequently played in the Catalans' quest for Treble.
Pique's season has been one of two contrasting halves. Following Carles Puyol's retirement last summer, many saw this campaign as the opportunity for the then 27-year-old to step out of his central defensive partner's shadow, justify his reputation as one of the world's best centre-halves and emerge as a new figurehead of Barcelona.
It began badly and got worse. Pique failed to do himself justice on the pitch and, off it, the defender stumbled from one shambles to another, all messes entirely of his own making. It was not becoming of a man pegged as a future captain of club and country.
Spain and Pique flopped in Brazil last summer, though their performances were not putrid as the odour seeping from the stink bomb Pique set off on board Barca's flight to a friendly in Helsinki. Despite being forced to apologise to fellow passengers and crew on board the plane, Pique - the son of a novel-writing businessman and a neuroscientist - obviously found himself hilarious. He promptly dropped another in the post-match mixed zone the following day.
Whether that episode was poorly-timed high jinks or unprofessionally juvenile, Pique's reputation really bombed in October. Less than a fortnight before a woeful display in a 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid, Pique reportedly pulled out the 'do you know who I am' card for traffic police after his brother was handed a ticket for stopping in a city centre bus lane. Following another apology, and days after the Clasico defeat, he was then criticised for using his mobile phone on the bench having been substituted (as planned) at half-time in the Supercopa de Catalunya exhibition against Espanyol. Pique then indulged in a spot of ear-flicking during the subsequent penalty shoot-out.
Exasperated, Enrique put Pique on the naughty step for the following three games. Serious doubts over the defender's future began to surface. Like Messi, it had previously seemed unthinkable that Pique would leave the club that he reportedly harbours ambitions of presiding over from the boardroom.
Rock-bottom for Barca and Pique arrived just after the winter break at David Moyes' Real Sociedad. Pique, joined on the bench by Messi, Neymar, Ivan Rakitic and Dani Alves, watched on as his side lost 1-0 at Anoeta. From then on, Barca won 11 straight games as Enrique settled on shape and selection. Pique started nine of those triumphs, rested only for easy wins over Elche and Levante.
Three of the victories in that run came against the defending champions, which Pique said lifted morale at the Nou Camp: "We beat Atletico Madrid, who last year we were not able to beat even once, and that gave us more confidence to keep moving forward. And as I always say, confidence in sport is vital. The team grew a lot in this, and that is why we are there now."
