Football365's Famous Euro Ladder Here we are again - Jack Wilshere climbs back into the top three, Harry Kane jumps again and Ross Barkley and Theo Walcott miss out. Don't shoot the guesser... Last Updated: 15/06/15 at 15:32 Post Comment

As ever, a reminder: The order below is based not on our opinion, but our estimation of Roy Hodgson's thoughts. Blame him, not us, if it makes you mad. 1 (1) - Wayne Rooney Rotten control against Ireland and then rotten finishing against Slovenia...until he scored the winner. And it was ever thus. He's a spurter. And if that doesn't make you queasy, you have a better stomach than I. 2 (2) - Joe Hart He literally has no competition; it's just as well that he is an excellent goalkeeper. And he did that swinging on the crossbar thing against Ireland that every right-thinking person loves. 3 (7) - Jack Wilshere From 2) in November to 7) in April to 3) in June. That pretty much illustrates the frustration of the brittle Wilshere, who simply needs to be fit enough for long enough to prove that he can be trusted in midfield against better opposition. England's one bright spark against Ireland became their driving force against Slovenia. No wonder he doesn't want the season to end. 4 (4) - Gary Cahill His decision-making (as illustrated against Slovenia) can be awful but he is - and yes, I do get bored of writing this - England's best option at centre-half. Even if Kurt Zouma usurps him at club level, he is England's vice-captain for a reason. His place is secure. 5 (3) - Raheem Sterling The Sun's Steven Howard called it a 'schoolboy error' when Hodgson chose Sterling to face Slovenia instead of Theo Walcott; The Sun's Steven Howard is wrong on this and many other things. Simply England's brightest attacking talent. 6 (9) - Jordan Henderson An absolute certainty for Hodgson's European Championship squad and near-certainty for the starting XI despite never producing an excellent England performance in 22 attempts. That he was much better at right-back against Slovenia is telling - he is a hardworking but limited player who needs a defined role. "Can you run up and down that wing, Jordan?" Of course I bloody can, boss. But who else? His discipline enables Wilshere to be brilliantly indisciplined. 7 (5) - Danny Welbeck Were the European Championship to start now, we suspect that Hodgson would field the same six as those that faced Slovenia, substituting Welbeck for Andros Townsend. And that's absolutely fine by us. 8 (11) - Phil Jones It really does seem that Hodgson will crowbar him in somewhere (he's started every game for which he has been fit since the World Cup). We can find reason behind most of the England manager's decisions, but Jones at right-back? Ahead of Clyne? Now that's mind-boggling. 9 (14) - Harry Kane Why has he moved without playing? Because we kept looking at the bench when England needed a goal, seeing Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy, and saying 'we really could do with Harry Kane'.
